What other actors are saying...

This process has been acclaimed by award-winning actors for decades, but most aspiring actors rarely attempt to approach the roles they play with it.
Because it is intense.

But it is also the way that gets the most desirable results.

When aspiring actors get up in front of a director, most are thinking, “Am I doing a good job? I wonder what he thinks. What’s my next line? OMG!”

And that pulls away from the effectiveness of the lines being authentically spoken which pulls the director (and the audience) out of resonance with the performance.

THAT is the fastest way to lose roles and callbacks.

But when aspiring actors (and those who have any inkling that they would love to act) train in this process, those fears that creep up on stage practically disappear.

When they are trained in this process that award-winning actors use, they become more confident and are able to LASER FOCUS on the lines and the situations that they are portraying.

In fact, it is utterly fair and accurate to say, they BECOME the characters they play, dissolving the lines between reality and acting.

What would your life and your career become if you trained in a performance process that made you lose your doubt, lose your fears, and lose yourself to become the character you’ve been asked to play?

That process is called method acting and it results in directors calling you back, audiences giving you rave reviews, and your career being launched into a space that you thought would take YEARS to reach.
Your group training feels like a 1:1. Before StandBy Method Acting Studio my acting was quite stiff. The training helped me improve a lot and helped me find my own style as an actor.

When I first came to Standby I was very frustrated and nearly gave up on my career, but after meeting with Louise and training with her, I found my confidence; she helped to discover my gifts as an actress. The training has been superb, this enabled me to get an agent and get cast in two shorts films. I have learnt so much from StandBy and the support system is amazing I cannot fault it at all! Love it.

If anyone in Sheffield or London has dreams of getting into film or theatre, StandBy gets my vote as the best place to start.

I can honestly say that I have tried lots of different classes and have learnt more in an incredibly short space of time with Louise than I have ever learnt before - and the reason for this is that Louise so encouragingly gives you the tools you need to progress. It’s all so measurable and it all makes brilliant sense. And it’s honestly so exciting to see yourself improving and to feel the excitement from everyone else in the group and in class..

Since training with StandBy I have gone on to land paid work on a regular basis, join spotlight, land an agent, work all over the country and meet the top casting directors in the industry. It is great training at StandBy learning a technique that the best actors ever have used and to be able to express a story in the most authentic way.

WHY?

In case you’re wondering who this crazy woman is that is practically GIVING everything away, I am Louise O’Leary and I founded the StandBy Method Acting Studio back in 2010 when I saw how many aspiring actors were giving up on their dreams because they couldn’t afford fancy drama school fees.

And frankly, I couldn’t take it. So I started the StandBy Method Acting Studio to keep dreams alive and dreamers achieving them.

You see, I started in drama school at The Arden School of Theatre in Manchester. But when it was over, I had to, then, fork out more money to continue my training because I hadn’t received the tools I needed to improve the negative feedback I’d gotten on my performances, including travelling all the way across the pond to the mecca of Method Acting – The Actor’s Studio.

Don’t get me wrong, I was good. I mean, I got in to drama school, right? But once I was there, I began looking at everyone around me and thinking, “Am I as good as she is?” “Oh, wow, she nailed that scene, there’s no way I can pull that off.” Or “I wonder if they can even understand my accent” (thanks to my then-much-thicker Yorkshire accent).

So, because I was always thinking, I was rarely IN character, even if I was.

I decided to practice the method acting techniques I DIDN’T learn in drama school (that came after, when I invested in a coach who GOT me and was able to help me hone my skills and talents) because, for me, method acting is the best way to psychologically and emotionally pull yourself INTO the roles you’re playing.

So StandBy is not only the most affordable studio for the most profound method acting techniques in the UK, it’s also the most recommended by professional actors.
